At 365g, not only is this the lightest NEXUS stick ever created, it is loaded with revolutionary technology that will give players of all abilities a level of confidence they have never experienced when shooting the puck.
Following on from the development of ADV (Advanced Series) Sticks for the Vapor and Supreme families of sticks, it is now the turn of the Nexus family.
Each iteration of ADV sticks has sought to push the Bauer R&D team to create the best possible version of each stick line. If you think of it from another industry, it’s like a car company creating a concept car, which then passes rigorous testing to become a limited edition production model.
The Vapor ADV sticks sought to make an even lighter version of the Vapor sticks, already known to be Bauer’s lightest stick. They achieved this by creating Advanced Carbon Layering (ACL). The Vapor ADV tipped the scales at 355g, and ACL has been used since in Bauer’s elite level sticks.
The Supreme ADV couldn’t just rely upon ACL to make it unique and special. The R&D experts had to come up with a new innovation, and think differently to take the Supreme ADV to another level of performance. They achieved this by creating the Sonic Taper, a new Bauer stick geometry to enhance the kick point for greater power in all shot types.
So, the Nexus ADV… All NEXUS sticks are designed to load and release shots with ease, and to provide greater control. NEXUS ADV Technology focuses and enhances these characteristics.
We can break the new Nexus ADV technologies down into 3 key areas: Geometry, Blade and Weight.
GEOMETRY - ER SPINE TECHNOLOGY
USES A NEW 5-SIDED SHAFT GEOMETRY TO IMPROVE PERFORMANCE.
By changing the geometry of the shaft, Bauer have removed excess carbon fiber layers in the key loading area of the stick while maintaining a standard Nexus mid-kick point.
- Reduces weight
- Creates a faster transfer of energy to the blade
- It’s easier to lean into the stick to load and release shots with less effort
- This new shape has been designed to contour to the palm of your hand to maximize feel and control
BLADE - WHAT IS SLINGTECH?
INSERTS A HOLE IN THE BLADE TO CREATE A SLINGSHOT EFFECT WHEN RELEASING THE PUCK.
WHY A HOLE?
By adding a hole in the blade, Bauer were able to create two separate blade sections with different properties that work together while loading and releasing shots. It is almost like having a kick-point in the blade.
- The blade does the work, making it easier to load and release the puck with added acceleration
- The two different sections hug the puck for better control and feel
ABOVE THE HOLE = Stiff / rigid to keep the blade stable while loading shots
BELOW THE HOLE = Flexible to allow the blade to bend when the puck makes contact and spring back when the puck is released
At 365 GRAMS, the Nexus ADV is the lightest Nexus stick ever. Advanced Carbon Layering + ER SPINE TECH combine to create Bauer’s lightest NEXUS stick ever.
Contrary to popular opinion online, the hole in the blade is not for weight saving, it is purely for performance. The slingtech hole requires additional carbon layering to provide reinforcement to ensure durability that would negate any weight saving.
WHAT ABOUT DURABILITY?
During on ice testing, Bauer gave players the test sticks fully taped in order to get honest, unbiased feedback about performance and feel. Then, much like the social media tease campaign for the ADV launch, asked the players to un-tape the stick after the test. As you can imagine, seeing the blade for the first time would be quite the shock. Like most Hockey players, one of the first questions that would pop into their head having seen the blade would be about blade durability.
Bauer’s R&D team used extensive FEA analysis, spent over 2000 hours on the ice and did every type of lab testing possible to ensure blade durability wasn’t compromised with this new technology.
• The edges of the hole were reinforced to ensure that durability is on par with our elite level sticks
HOW SHOULD THE BLADE BE TAPED?
There isn’t a special or unique way to tape the blade. It should be taped the same way as a standard blade.
The hole isn't to improve air flow, to make the blade swing faster as many have theorised online. Lab tests conducted by Bauer showed that taping the blade does not reduce the performance benefit of Slingtech technology.
