If you're like us and a lot of players, you're probably always looking for ways to improve your game. In our experience, custom skate profiling is one of the best value upgrades. Getting a profile that's tailored to your game can make a world of difference to skating performance and, just as importantly, the way that skating feels.

Blade profiling shapes the rocker of your steel, changing how much of the blade contacts the ice at any given moment. A shorter radius gives you quicker turns and sharper acceleration. A longer one gives you more glide and stability through your stride. Factory steel is a compromise. A profiled blade is built around how you actually play.

We use a ProSharp AS2001 machine and grind every runner to our customer's specified profile. You pick your profile, mail your steel to us, and we'll have it ground and on its way back to you within 48 hours of receiving it.

That turnaround matters if you're mid-season and can't be without your skates for a week. Our mail-in service covers the whole of the UK, so where you play doesn't limit what you can get done.

If you're not sure which profile will best suit your game, our profiling guide breaks it down. Or if you'd like to chat with one of our expert technicians, drop into our Sheffield store or give us a call on 0114 244 3005, and we'll talk through it with you.

FAQs

We work with three primary profiles for outfield players. The Quad suits players with a long, powerful stride who push hard into the ice. The Zuperior is built for quicker, more agile skaters who play on their toes and want explosive acceleration. The Ellipse sits between the two, encouraging use of the full blade for players who want a balance of power and agility.

For goalies, there are two options. The Goalie SAM is the netminder's agility profile, providing enhanced footwork to make it easier to cut off angles. The Goalie Ellipse is tuned for increased stability, with shorter toe contact for faster up-and-down action and faster shuffles.

We also offer single-radius options, from 7' up to 17'.

If you're not sure which fits your game, come in store and we'll talk it through, or give us a call on 0114 244 3005. The full breakdown is available in our profiling guide.

For sharpening, around every 8 to 10 hours of ice time is a sensible rule for a regular player. You'll know it's time when your edges feel less grippy, turns feel skiddy, or you're struggling to hold an edge in tight corners.

Profiling is less frequent. We recommend three times a season: start of season, mid-season, and before the playoffs. Hand sharpening can gradually wear down your profile over time, so keeping on top of it means you're always skating on steel that's shaped the way it should be. If you've just bought new steel, getting it profiled straight away is a very worthwhile upgrade, because factory profiles are shaped for the average player, not for you and your game.

Yes, the £30 profiling service includes a sharpening.

For mail-in orders, we turn runners around within 48 hours of receiving them and post them back via 24-hour shipping. If you're dropping your skates in-store, profiling takes longer than a standard sharpening, so we'd recommend leaving them with us rather than waiting.

Most modern skates use a quick-release holder, which makes this straightforward. On Bauer skates with a Tuuk LightSpeed Edge holder, press the trigger at the heel inward and the blade pops out. On CCM SpeedBlade holders, look for the release dial or trigger and slide the blade out heel first. Always use a towel or glove when handling the steel. Even unsharpened runners have an edge.

Wrap the runners in a cloth or bubble wrap so the edges don't get damaged in transit. Put them in a small box or padded envelope, include your order number inside the package, and post to us.

Yes. If you're local to Sheffield, bring your skates in and we'll take care of everything. If you can't make it in, the mail-in service works just as well. Remove your runners, pack them with your order number, and post them to us. We'll grind them to your specification and then ship them back within 48hrs of receiving them for profiling, and 24hrs for sharpening.
