Liam Kirk drafted by the Coyotes!

With the 189th pick in the NHL Draft, Arizona Coyotes select forward Liam Kirk!!

It's not every day that a player born and raised in the UK, or one of our staff gets drafted to the NHL!

With the 189th pick in the 2018 NHL entry Draft, the Arizona Coyotes made that dream a reality for Liam Kirk.

Liam scored 9 goals and 16 points in 52 games this past season for the Steelers, the third-highest point total ever in the Elite League from an under-19 player. Liam also collected 3 IIHF World Championship medals for Great Britain this season, including World Championship gold in Division 1 Group A in April, securing the Great Britain's return to the elite level of ice hockey for the first time since 1994.

Rising through the ranks of Hockey in Sheffield, Liam has shown his skill, dedication and determination on the ice. When speaking to NHL.com, Liam said “I hope it kind of gives the visual to kids in all non-traditional hockey countries, not just England, that if you believe and just put in the hard work and you’re committed that you can make it.”

We certainly hope this fantastic achievement of being drafted can encourage players from across the UK, and other non traditional markets to believe that there is a chance, to keep working hard, and love playing this awesome game.

But we know the hard work is only just starting. Liam is scheduled to fly out to the States tomorrow (Sunday 24th), with the Coyotes holding their Prospect Development Camp at Gila River Arena starting June 25th. Luckily we can find someone to cover your shift tomorrow Liam!
